Simply Polished — Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. Cookies let the site remember things like whether you're signed in, which theme you've picked, and which options you've accepted on banners like the one that surfaced this page.

This policy covers "cookies" and equivalent browser storage (localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB). We'll say "cookies" throughout for short.

What we use cookies for

Simply Polished classifies every cookie into one of three tiers. You control the non-essential tiers through the banner that appears on your first visit, and you can change your mind any time via our Privacy Policy page.

Strictly necessary (always on)

These cookies are required for the site to function. You cannot disable them through the banner; disabling them in your browser will break sign-in, reschedule forms, and checkout.

NamePurposeDuration
authjs.session-tokenHolds your signed-in session (JWT). Required for /owner, /client, and /account.Up to 8 hours (configurable via SESSION_ABSOLUTE_TIMEOUT_MS)
authjs.csrf-tokenProtects form submissions from cross-site request forgery.Session
sp_cookie_consentRemembers your banner choice so we don't ask again on every page load.Until you change your choice, or 90 days
sp_themeRemembers your light/dark preference. Not used for tracking.Persistent
sp_localeRemembers your language preference.Persistent

Analytics (optional)

As of this version, Simply Polished has no active analytics tooling. When we add one (e.g. a privacy-respecting tool like Plausible or PostHog EU), its cookies will land in this tier and only activate if you accept them in the banner.

Marketing (optional)

Simply Polished does not use marketing or advertising cookies. This tier is a placeholder so the banner UX matches industry-standard patterns. If we ever add remarketing (unlikely — we are a local-service solo operator), it will appear here and require your opt-in.

Respect for Do-Not-Track

If your browser sends the DNT: 1 header, our cookie banner defaults to Reject non-essential on first paint. You can still opt back in via the banner's "Customize" pane.

Data retention

Cookie-based data is retained per the window in the table above. The durable storage of data we hold about you (account, bookings, invoices, audit logs) is covered by a separate set of retention windows in our Privacy Policy.

Your choices

  • Accept all or Reject non-essential via the banner. Your choice is stored in sp_cookie_consent for 90 days; after that, the banner re-appears so you can reconfirm.
  • Customize lets you pick tiers individually. Strictly-necessary is always on because the site needs it to function.
  • Change your mind via the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer, available on every page.
  • Nuclear option: clear cookies in your browser. You'll be signed out and see the banner again; nothing else is harmed.
